Here are some samples of my work to give an idea of what I do. If you have a project you would like to discuss, contact me.

I was formerly Managing Editor of the Health Content team at Bupa. I have since worked with the company on a range of freelance projects, which includes the following.
I have written health blogs to provide accessible information to a lay audience on a range of health issues. And I have reviewed numerous health topics, FAQs and healthy living advice articles, which all provide evidence-based information on a range of health conditions and procedures. These can be found in Bupa’s health information.
I have written feature articles targeted at an expatriate audience, for example on health in China (ghost written for Dr Rebecca Small).

I was the successful recipient of a tender to provide NICE freelance editorial services for three years, which was extended for another year. I have carried out a range of work for the organisation.
I provided both consultancy and editorial services to change the style of its Interventional procedures guidelines in order to make them more accessible for a patient/carer audience. I researched the requirements of NICE, created a new style to meet these and produced a production guide to enable internal staff to follow the new requirements.
Prior to changing the style, I converted a number of Interventional procedures guidelines for a patient audience.
I edited a book titled ‘Patients, the public and the prioritisation of healthcare’ on behalf of Professor Peter Littlejohns and Professor Sir Michael D Rawlins.
I drafted a process manual for the Database of Cancer Uncertainties (DoCU).

I have written copy across all sections of The Vascular Centre website, which included explaining the wide range of very technical procedures, for a patient audience.
I have written copy for The Harley Street Clinic Diagnostic Centre, detailing the services available.
I have ghost written articles on behalf of executives at the company to appear in Independent Practitioner Today.

I have written the copy for two editions of the LOC Journal. This involved interviewing leading health professionals, clinicians and patients to write articles to create relevant copy for cancer patients. It also involved editing provided copy provided by clinicians to make it appropriate for a lay audience.

Produced copy for a website to market Cacicol, a treatment for chronic corneal ulcers.

I have worked with academics to produce copy for two faculty websites www.ecs.soton.ac.uk and www.phys.soton.ac.uk.

I have written copy for University postgraduate offer brochures and a prospectus and accompanying marketing materials to launch a new campus in Malaysia www.southampton.ac.uk/my.
I have edited publications such as Hartley News, an alumni magazine that aims to raise awareness of the University’s research and activities and raise funding. I also interviewed academics and alumni to write the feature articles ‘Bringing medical innovation to life’ and ‘Engineering sporting success’.
I have interviewed academics and written numerous articles to appear in the Voice – the University’s magazine for staff. The topic of these articles has ranged from a discovery of a new Vivaldi concerto to understanding life in the oceans. I have also written the copy for a Research and Enterprise newsletter, an internal email publication targeted at staff.
